the mighty waikato

With the city of Hamilton at it’s heart and a network of smaller towns across the region, the Waikato provides experiences for everyone. From renowned surf breaks and fishing in Raglan, to world class sport venues in Cambridge and Lake Karapiro, to the beautiful Waikato River Trails for cycling and walking.

The region hosts an array of events including the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, Balloons over Waikato, Fieldays, Summer Cricket at Seddon Park and the Rugby 7’s at FMCG Stadium–there’s always plenty on!

The mighty Waikato takes its name from New Zealand’s longest river which runs through it’s heart, the name means ‘meeting of the waters’.

Hamilton is the gateway to many of New Zealand’s great locations. From Rotorua’s thermal attractions, trout fishing in Taupo and skiing on Mt Ruapehu to the white sand beaches of the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty.
